It has been the most important ancient worshiping place of the god Asclepius and its temple, having been built by 4th century BC, the great Sanctuary of Epidaurus was equal in magnificence and beauty to the Sanctuary of Zeus at Olympia.
A journey through time
By observing the impressive foundation of the Asklipieion, preserved to this day, you can imagine the most brilliant healing center of the time, with its countless healing waters, unfolding before your eyes… Inside the archaeological site, there is also found the archaeological Museum of Epidaurus, rich in findings from the excavations in the Sacred site of Asclepius (1881- 1928).
At the southeastern end of the sanctuary, the ancient theater of Epidaurus is found brilliantly looming. It is one of the most well-preserved ancient theaters in the world, the work of Polycleitos, which combines perfect acoustics to the elegance of the space… It is a journey through time, to the place where medicine was born and evolved, as well as was the care of the soul through art…
